Meet Braden Roberts, Product Manager at Reelgood

At Reelgood, our goal is to create cutting-edge products that not only make streaming easier, but more enjoyable. In many ways, streaming is still such a new frontier. We caught up with Braden Roberts, our Product Manager to reminisce about what it used to be like to find movies we wanted to see and learn how Reelgood is making it easier to find the things that we want to watch.

Hey Braden! Tell us, when did you join Team Reelgood?

I joined Reelgood in June 2021.

And what’s your role here at Reelgood?

I am a Product Manager.

Can you tell us about it?

At Reelgood I’m responsible for empowering our users and our partners within the ecosystem of our B2C products. At a high level that consists of operations, roadmapping, execution, and experimentation.

What challenges do you experience as a Product Manager in the streaming industry and how do you solve them?

Any given day is different from the last, with new challenges and opportunities. Generally, I solve problems by communicating with stakeholders, ensuring alignment, and working together to come up with data-backed solutions that excite our users.

Streaming is still such a new frontier. What do you find most interesting about it?

Content curation! The great fragmentation of the streaming industry has been a boon for the consumer in terms of content. Not only can you now find that niche 1980s folk-horror movie, but there’s a whole streaming service dedicated to serving up that genre of content. It’s awesome to see niche communities have dedicated content experiences on various platforms.

What do you love about streaming?

As a self-described ‘movie buff’ I love the access offered by streaming. Growing up it was nigh impossible to watch a number of ‘the greats’ without knowing someone with a physical copy or getting lucky and finding it at the local library. Don’t get me started on how long it took 15-year-old me to find David Lynch’s Wild at Heart

There’s nothing I enjoy more than being able to drop into any point in time across the more than 100 years of film storytelling at the push of a button.

Can you tell us what inspires you in your professional life?

The incredibly smart people I work with and have the opportunity to learn from.

What do you like best about working for Reelgood?

At Reelgood no mountain is too high to climb. Thanks to the hardworking, smart people that work here it’s never ‘no’. Everyone is driven to find a solution, regardless of the size of the problem, and because of that company-wide mentality, there’s always an opportunity to work on high-impact, innovative projects.

And last, but not least, what are you currently streaming?

I’ve been in the TV zone for a few weeks. I just finished the latest season of The Righteous Gemstones, which is somehow getting more hysterical with each season. Now that the weather is cooling off I’ll dip back into movies and the next one on my list is Daniel Goldhaber’s How to Blow Up a Pipeline, which I’ve heard nothing but great things about.
